Meet the new LCA executive

A new executive was elected at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Lowertown Community Association communautaire de la Basse-Ville on Monday, June 13th. As has been the case since June 2020, the meeting was conducted over ZOOM, hopefully for the last time.

A familiar name is missing from the list of board members. After more than a decade of dedicated service to Lowertown, Liz Bernstein is stepping down. Avery Burns, the current Secretary of the LCA was also not seeking re-election.

However, many of the previous members of the LCA board are staying on, including Sylvie Bigras as president and Sandra Milton and Warren Waters as the two vice-presidents. Lloyd Morrison is staying on as Treasurer. Milton and Waters will continue to head up their committees, Safety & Security and Planning respectively. Milton also leads the Friends of Lowertown Parks.

The returning directors are: Andrew Waldron & Nancy Miller Chenier (Heritage);  Kendra Hughes (Arts & Culture) and Julie Lanteigne who will co-chair Safety & Security. New to the Board in 2022 are Dominic Santos (Transport) and Bruce Kelly (Housing & Homelessness).

The association is still looking for people to fill two important posts on the board, Secretary and Director of Communications.

The secretary plays a vital gatekeeper role in the association, directing the messages coming into the association from the city and residents to the appropriate person on the board The secretary prepares many of the documents that keep the community informed of association meetings and is the official record keeper.

The Director of Communications is responsible for distributing information about LCA business and events to the membership and the general public mainly through posts to the LCA website, the Facebook page and other means.

Together, the director of communications and the secretary are the main communication links inside and outside of the association.  It is not too late to make an important contribution to the  community by volunteering for either of these important posts.
