Daycare playgrounds and construction sites don’t make the best neighbours. For one downtown Ottawa daycare, Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) was a better neighbour. It also proved that not all superheroes wear capes.
The Andrew Fleck Daycare is next door to a PSPC building on King Edward Avenue.
When a condo construction project started beside the daycare’s playground, a new location was needed for the playground so the children could play outside safely. So, they knocked on PSPC’s door and asked about using the department’s green space instead.
The Real Property Services branch worked quickly. First, its Property and Facility Management service line evaluated the request by working with Brookfield Global Integrated Solutions and Technical Services. Then, once the land was assessed for playground use, the daycare received permission to use it. That’s when an agreement was put into place.
The Andrew Fleck Daycare can now use part of the front lawn of 300 King Edward for the next two years. The daycare thanked PSPC for its “very neighbourly” support and for making a big difference in the community.
This was originally a press release from the PSPC on May 18, 1011. Some minor corrections have been made.
