New documentary: Alias Marie Soleil

By Marc Aubin

A new documentary has been released about one of Lowertown’s heroes, Suzanne Pinel (née Plouffe). Suzanne’s family lived at 154 Bruyère Street from the 1940s to the 1960s. Her father operated the National Dairy on Boteler for a time. Starting in the 1970s and continuing to the 1990s, Suzanne became well known under her stage name of Marie Soleil, a children’s entertainer teaching the French language through music and her television show, Marie Soleil. She was later appointed a citizenship judge, and still occasionally presides at special events.

Written and directed by Ottawa resident and Marie Soleil fan Emilie Martel, the documentary is available in French on TFO at the following link: https://www.tfo.org/titre/alias-marie-soleil/GP699139
