Happy Holidays at Marchés d`Ottawa Markets

By Valentina Perez Montoya

Winter is at our doorstep! With it comes the beautiful joy of the holidays, the excitement of the first “real” snow, the toasting to memories made, and the drafting of naughty-or-nice lists.

This year, Marchés d’Ottawa Markets would like to invite you to give a piece of where you live this holiday season. Our small neighbourhood businesses need your support. As we are coming to the time of giving, let’s, as a community, commit to buying local. But don’t just gift; take a minute to write a card and explain your local purchase and why you love your neighbourhood. After years of making every effort to be apart, let’s make every effort to become better together.

Marchés d’Ottawa Markets is going to help! We are very excited to inform you that our holiday tree vendors and wreath makers will return to ByWard and Parkdale markets starting in mid-November. You can find them along York Street and ByWard Market Square. Remember, wear a mask to your comfort, and plan a pop-in to a local shop!

On deck we also have some fun activities:

  • Starting on December 3rd: Live carolers. Check the events calendar on our website for the performance schedule.
  • December 13th – 24th: “Veg on a Ledge” Scavenger Hunt at 55 ByWard Market Square.
  • December 16th –24th: The Salvation Army’s Christmas Kettle Campaign, featuring Canada’s largest red kettle.

Our attention is not just on the holidays but on the next summer season. Marchés d’Ottawa Markets is entering a critical phase of our work, and as we recruit new producers, artisans and musicians, we want to encourage all of you to get out on the street. One of the best things you can do is be eyes on the street, supporters at the register and champions to the public. Together we are working to build back the historic precinct where our city started almost 200 years ago!
