The Ottawa School of Art (OSA) held an open house at both campuses–ByWard Market and Orleans—on Sunday, September 11. These open houses had free art demonstrations for the community to enjoy, like wood carving, sculpture, live model drawing and painting. There were also activities such as button making, watercolor painting, pastel drawing and portrait drawing, as well as an art-book sale. Mayor Jim Watson stopped by and had a tour of ByWard Market campus, stopping in at the book sale.
It was a fun day for the whole family! In this annual event you can learn and see so much artistic skill by professional art instructors and view specialized studios for free. The ceramics studio, darkroom, sculpture studio and woodshop are just a few examples of what is available to members during courses at the Ottawa School of Art.
The OSA offers a full range of specialized art courses including life drawing, landscape painting, photography, ceramics, sculpture, lithography and more. Children’s and teens’ classes range from multi-media to animation and cartooning, sculpture and construction, pottery, drawing and painting. In addition to art courses, the OSA’s programs have grown to include visiting artist-in-residence workshops, a professional exhibitions gallery which hosts solo and group shows by local, national and international artists, a not-for-credit Arts Fundamentals Certificate, a one-year Portfolio Development Program and a three-year Diploma Program.

The OSA was thrilled to have the Ottawa community come through their doors. More events to come this fall include exhibitions by David Umemoto at the ByWard Market campus and Jane Fogarty at our Orleans campus. There will be more coming this holiday season, like the Holiday Art Sale. Register early this fall so you don’t miss the winter-term courses drop and grow your creativity.
