The movement for safer, more livable streets

Janette Sadik-Khan, co-author of Streetfight: Handbook for an Urban Revolution and former Transportation Commissioner for New York City, will be in Ottawa on April 27 to talk about how she re-imagined public spaces and helped transform the streets New York – one of the world’s greatest, toughest cities – into dynamic spaces for pedestrians and cyclists.
During her tenure as Transportation Commissioner, Sadik-Khan implemented an ambitious program to improve street safety, mobility and sustainability throughout New York City. She oversaw a series of innovative projects, like creating more pedestrian space in Times Square, the addition of nearly four hundred miles of bicycle lanes, and the installation of more than sixty plazas citywide.
To help Ottawa join the Urban Revolution, Sadik-Khan will share tips on how to rethink, reinvigorate and redesign our city for safer, more livable streets. The Lowertown Community Association is proud to partner with Ecology Ottawa and other Ottawa community associations to co-sponsor this exciting evening at the Horticulture Building – Large Hall, 1525 Princess Patricia Way.
