Update on future of ByWard Market building

By Sylvie Grenier

As a follow-up to the 2013 study on the future of the ByWard Market, City staff hired the New York consulting firm Project for Public Spaces (PPS) to do a study recommending a new governance model to manage the Market Building. PPS will also recommend physical improvements to the building and to adjacent streets.

The intent is to return the Market Building to its original function as a year-round fresh food produce market and revive the ByWard Market’s traditional role as a farmers’ market.

Jake Rupert, who is leading the project for the city, will present the preliminary ideas and recommendations of the study at the Lowertown Community Association monthly meeting on Monday 8 September at 7:00pm at the Routhier Community Centre on Guigues. You are encouraged to attend the presentation and provide your comments.
